These torii are genuine articles wrought beautifully in metal using traditional Japanese torii manufacturing methods.
Torii were built to mark the boundary between temple grounds and the outside world, but in North America and Europe, they have become familiar as gardening decorations.
Our torii are made of steel, but their beautiful curves are crafted using high-quality Japanese metalworking techniques.
That our torii stand in Chusonji Temple in Hiraizumi, designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site, is a testament to their cultural value.

To acquire the astounding durability sought in traditional torii—which last over 100 years—our steel torii are given strong anti-rust protection though galvanized steel sheeting. The lifespan of this protection is proportionate to the amount of zinc applied. We ensure that over 400 g/m² of zinc is applied to our torii to achieve that over-100-year lifespan.
The anti-rust properties of galvanized steel are produced by two properties of the galvanization: its function as a protective film and its anti-corrosive function.
Galvanized steel as a protective film: An oxidized film on the surface of the steel prevents rusting by providing a secure protective membrane against exposure to air and water.
Galvanized steel as an anti-corrosive: Even if the sheeting is scratched and the steel underneath is exposed, the zinc surrounding the scratch will provide electrochemical protection by dissolving before the steel, preventing the steel itself from corroding.
Typical uses of galvanized steel sheeting: greenhouses (photo on left), guardrails (photo on right).
Furthermore, we apply three layers of paint to improve the durability of the metal plating, with the outermost layer a fluorinated coating that provides the highest durability modern science can provide.
Typical uses of the fluorinated coating we use in our torii: radio towers (photo on left), bridges (photo on right)
