The Mechanism of Action of TB-PAN-Fiber in the MASTIC

1. The function of absorption

The diameter of the fiber is general 15µm, and the specific surface is very large — the surface area/g could reach to several square meters

The fibers distribute in the asphaltum, and their huge surface area becomes the soakage interface

In the interface layer, the physical and chemical actions between the asphaltum and fibers make the asphaltum distribute on the surface in unimolecule, further form the firm asphaltum interface layer

At the same time, because both the fibers and the surrounding asphaltum attached the surface of the aggregate, the asphalt membrane is enlarged, makes for slowing down the ageing rate, further prolong the lifetime of the roads

2. The function of stability

The asphaltum attached by the crossbinding fibers increased the proportion of the structural asphaltum, decreased the free asphaltum, enforced the treacliness of the MASTIC, improved the softening point, thereby improved the stability of the SMA bulking material

3. The function of reinforcement

The fibers distribute in the MASTIC in 3D and stochastic, which could prevent the crack of the bulking material, consequently increase the healing power of nature of the crack of the asphalt roads and decrease the crack.
