Granulated Blaft Furnace Slag

Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (or also usually called with the international acronym “GBFS”) is a by-product of the production process of the cast iron; during great quantity of liquid are created slag and the composition is not much different from the “Portland Cement”.

GBFS has a variable composition resulting from the reactions that arising in the blast furnace, between the elements of the gangue of the Iron ore and the elements added as melt to make the metallurgical process easier.

Considered as one of the most versatile product in the sector of the construction materials, GBFS is machining to find the size requested becoming an excellent aggregate.

Depending on its composition, is possible to talk about acid GBFS if it contain a lot of Silica Oxide, compared to Calcium Oxide and compared to the other basic substances. Otherwise (the most frequent case) it’s possible to talk of basic GBFS, used for the manufacturer of the cement and for the productions of the cement conglomerates.
