Calacatta Vagli Rosato is the marble specialy imported, specifically for this fireplace mantel. The quarries for this very beautiful marble are located in Lucca, Italy. The calacatta marble is very brittle and breaks when carving.
This fireplace mantel was very difficult to carve. Notice the delicate beads that run along the front of this fireplace mantel. The leaves carved in the center and down the legs are also very delicately modeled and required a skilled touch when carving
